SAN JOSE — A Pacifica couple was identified as the victims of a horrific motorcycle crash on Highway 87 in which they were thrown off an elevated portion of the freeway Wednesday, authorities said.

Michael Quan, 66, and Clarissa Quan, 64, were southbound in the right lane approaching Taylor Street when around 2:10 p.m. they lost control of their 2010 Harley-Davidson three-wheel motorcycle, causing them to veer right and hit a concrete barrier, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The impact caused the riders to be thrown off and fall onto a trail 30 feet below, the CHP said. Michael Quan was pronounced dead at the scene. Clarissa Quan, his wife, died a short time later at Valley Medical Center.

What caused them to lose control of their vehicle remains under investigation. There is no indication that either of the victims were under the influence of drugs or alcohol, the CHP said.
